A large worldwide, rapidly growing industrial equipment company is looking for a Technical Publications Supervisor to oversee the development, accuracy, and timely delivery of technical documentation, including manuals, service bulletins, illustrated parts catalogs, and other product support materials. This is a new position that reports to the Manager and oversees a team of 6-10 and ensures that documentation meets industry standards, supports product usability, aligns with organizational goals and customer expectations while also mentoring team members and coordinating with cross-functional departments.
Responsibilities
- Guide, mentor, and support a team of 6-10 writers and illustrators to deliver documentation (manuals, exploded views, assembly diagrams, service bulletins, part catalogues).
- Provide coaching and technical feedback in visual communication and illustration techniques.
- Interpret engineering drawings and CAD models to develop accurate visual representations for manuals and service guides.
- Ensure illustrations meet industry standards and are optimized for both print and digital formats.
- Collaborate with engineering and supplier teams to update visuals based on design changes and product revisions.
- Plan, assign, and track documentation projects to ensure on-time delivery and alignment with product release schedules.
- Review and approve technical content for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
- Maintain and improve documentation processes, templates, and tools to support scalable and consistent output.
- Manage documentation workflows using content management systems (CMS) and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
- Support onboarding and training of new team members on illustration tools, documentation standards, and internal processes.
- Assist service teams in identifying and ordering correct spare parts through accurate visual documentation.
- Contribute to cost-out initiatives by providing innovative design solutions and improving illustration efficiency.

- Participate in audits and ensure documentation complies with industry regulations and customer expectations.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement in illustration and documentation development.
Competencies
Bachelor's degree heavily preferred3 - 6+ years of years' total experience in engineering or manufacturing of physical parts / products, preferably with an OEM2+ years in a lead or senior role1+ years' experience with part illustrations using Adobe Illustrator, ISODraw, or CREO1+ years' experience technical writing or engineering documentationExperience interpreting engineering drawings and documentationExperience interpreting BOM (bill of materials)Attention to detail, communication, and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced environmentPlusses
Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) and / or enterprise resource planning (ERP) like Infor LNUnderstanding of Agile or Scrum methodologiesMine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification
