Must-Have :

• Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required prior to acceptance of position.
• Certification in Intermediate Fetal Monitoring is necessary.
• Must be able to circulate for cesarean sections.
• Experience with perinatal safety checklists is essential.

Description :

This position involves providing care in a Labor & Delivery unit.

The unit contains 10 Labor & Delivery beds and 4 Triage beds.

Travelers will not work in triage.

Charge Nurses do not take patients.

There are no Patient Care Technicians, but there are Certified Surgical Technologists in the Operating Room for cesarean sections.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 1 for active deliveries and 1 : 2 for regular labor.

Staff must work every other to every third weekend and holidays are included in the permanent staff rotation.

Shifts are 12 hours, scheduled from 7 PM to 7 : 30 AM.

Travelers will float between Mother Baby and Postpartum units.

Frequent floating is expected between facilities.

The average number of births per month is between 300 and 325.

Common diagnoses include preeclampsia, magnesium use, and postpartum hemorrhage.

Most deliveries are conducted by midwives and the utilization of epidurals is high.

There is limited cardiac monitoring and patients generally transfer to ICU / Telemetry with Labor & Delivery RNs.

Anesthesia is available on-site 24 / 7.

Pharmacy and respiratory therapy services are also available 24 / 7.

Cancellations may occur up to four shifts during the assignment period.
