Job Summary
Serves as a Research Scholar on a multi-scholar research initiative in the interdisciplinary translational research program that is seamlessly integrated with research, training, and mentoring in several areas of translational sciences with pre-clinical and clinical scientists. Reports directly to Dr. Devendra K. Agrawal, Professor and Director, Department of Translational Research. Will be trained and mentored while working with Dr. Agrawal in maintaining the research laboratories and in the conduct of the assigned research projects. May have lead responsibility for discrete research components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.1. Experience in cell and molecular biology and immunopathology with the knowledge of medicine and ability to apply scientific theory and put it into practice with an understanding of the professional field and limited oversight from more senior researchers.2. Following initial training, independently performs the full range of responsibilities associated with the position.3. Performs experiments on assigned research projects, analyzes data and write research articles.4. Analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions.5. Through more senior researchers influences others regarding policies, practices, and procedures in the research laboratory.6. Team player with an excellent work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and high intrinsic self-motivation to learn and work in the lab or field, as applicable.7. Ability to acquire accurate, reproducible data with a critical eye towards consistency, reproducibility, and the scientific method in general.8. Scientific writing skills demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications.9. Experience presenting research results in meetings, conferences, and seminars.10. Advocate for safety and ethics in the workplace. Required Qualifications M. D. or Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a discipline of health sciences, with a minimum of 1-year research experience with a demonstrated record of research productivity. A Master’s degree or equivalent in a health science field, plus at least 4 years of relevant post-master’s research experience, will also be considered. List comments regarding work hours 5 days a week, 40 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends may be required. - Operate and maintain assigned research projects and performed research experiments.
- Take lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger research project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.
- Prepare complete documentation of research activities for reference purposes, including following applicable data management protocols.
- Analyze, interpret, and document research findings for review.
- Compare actual results and expected results and suggest solutions to correct the deviations.
- Evaluate existing research techniques and recommend improvements to ensure quality and productivity.
- Closely work with other research personnel, including health science students, in Dr. Agrawal’s research laboratory
- Performs other duties and tasks as they relate to research and scholarly activity, as assigned by Dr. Agrawal
Percentage Of Time 75 Job Duties
- Mentor and train medical students and research technician.
- Prepare proposals and reports.
- Write original research articles and critical review articles for publication in scientific journals in the preparation of proposals and reports.

- Oversee general laboratory maintenance and safety issues including cleaning of research laboratory on a regular basis.
