The Department of Pediatrics and Division of Medical Genetics at Stanford University is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Academic Program Professional 2 to lead and manage the newly established SLC29A3 related conditions research program, a donor-funded initiative established to improve the lives of patients and families affected by this rare immunologic disease.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in the launch and operations of a unique research program positioned to benefit patients globally. Under the direction of the Program Faculty Director and in close collaboration with a faculty leadership team the Program Manager will be responsible for advancing the vision, strategy, and goals of the program.

The role involves managing a multi-disciplinary research program, supporting the identification of new research activities for funding support and coordination of progress reporting. The Program Manager will also lead community engagement and outreach efforts focused on research, clinical and patient stakeholders.

The Program manager will lead the administrative activities of the program including coordinating leadership meetings and discussions with internal and external collaborators and partners.

The Program Manager will oversee the planning and realization of key scientific and community events, including round table discussions among experts, collaborative project meetings and community-facing programming. They will serve as a primary liaison to stakeholders across Stanford and beyond—including academic collaborators, donors and patient advocates—and will play a key role in shaping the program’s communications and collaborations.

As the program evolves, the Program Manager will also contribute to philanthropic stewardship and sustainability efforts, working closely with institutional partners to prepare grant proposals and manuscripts track deliverables, and support donor engagement through strategic reporting and impact documentation.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in academic program development, research administration, and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives. This is an exceptional opportunity for a mission-driven leader to help accelerate scientific discovery and improve the lives of patients and families affected by important rare conditions related to SLC29A3 gene function.

Duties include :

  • Leading the administrative operations of program including coordinating meetings, events and communications
  • Facilitating scientific discourse and collaborative effort between all members of the program, at Stanford University and beyond.
  • Keep up on latest developments in relation to SLC29A3 related conditions as they may inform the work of the program
  • Formulate recommendations to achieve the goals of the program and identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new initiatives.
  • Contributing to the creation and submission of scientific grants and manuscripts
  • Contribute to and inform on strategic program / entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
  • Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising / funding.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $120,000 - $150,000.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MS, PhD, or equivalent) in a scientific, health, or policy-related field strongly preferred. Background in biomedical sciences, translational research, or health systems is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic program or research administration within a university, healthcare, or nonprofit research setting. Experience working in a medical school or clinical research environment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing complex, multi-stakeholder research or training initiatives from concept to execution. Adept at building relationships across disciplines and sectors, including experience liaising with faculty, donors, industry partners, advocacy organizations, and external research consortia.
  • Strong knowledge of academic funding mechanisms and internal / external grant administration, including NIH, foundation, and philanthropic grants, grant administration, IRB, and financial forecasting. Proven experience supporting the development and submission of successful research proposals, including familiarity with sponsor guidelines, compliance processes, and institutional routing.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing scientific reports, donor briefings, and educational materials for diverse audiences including faculty, funders, and the public.
  • Proven ability to lead scientific meetings, symposia, and educational events, including agenda design, speaker coordination, and impact assessment.
  • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED) :

    Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED) :

  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff.
  • Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.
  • CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES :

  • For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.
