Position Details

The Department of Computer Science in the College of Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Education at The University of Tampa invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor position for the 2026-27 academic year, beginning in August 2026.

The B.S. in Computer Science is a rapidly growing program that welcomed its inaugural class in 2021-22. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the direction of a young and evolving program committed to excellence in undergraduate education.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
  • Hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (ABD considered; however, the terminal degree must be earned by July 2026).
  • Possess a broad background in computer science with the ability to teach across the curriculum.
  • Demonstrate potential for outstanding teaching, strong written and oral communication skills, and a commitment to high academic standards.
  • Have experience teaching undergraduates (preferred).
  • Exhibit the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Be committed to remaining current in the field.


Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate level, advising students, conducting scholarly work, and participating in academic and professional service activities. The normal teaching load is four 4-credit undergraduate courses per semester. The successful candidate is expected to:
  • Teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses in computer science.
  • Develop new courses in relevant areas of expertise.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Conduct scholarly work.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and departmental service.
  • Support the mission of the Department, College, and University through collegial engagement and community involvement.


Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly work, and service. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and inclusive teacher-scholar who values engaging teaching, meaningful mentorship, and impactful scholarship. Innovative teaching approaches are welcome, and a strong emphasis is placed on teaching excellence and service.
