The Industrial Engineer I (IE I) supports manufacturing and operational process improvement initiatives within NHF’s fabrication facility. Working under the guidance of management and senior Industrial Engineers, this role focuses on data collection, documentation, and foundational analysis to improve workflow, material flow, safety, quality, delivery, and overall facility efficiency.
The IE I supports machining, assembly, crating, material handling, and quality control operations and gains hands-on experience in NHF’s curtain wall fabrication and project-based manufacturing environment.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Develop a foundational understanding of curtain wall manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Collect production data, including labor hours, cycle times, and material movement.
- Assist with time studies and work measurement activities on the shop floor.
- Document standard work, routings, and process flows to support consistent execution.
- Support shop floor layout updates, workstation organization, and material flow improvements.
- Assist with implementation and sustainment of 5S and workplace organization initiatives.
- Support productivity tracking, basic reporting, and metric development related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Assist in identifying process gaps and supporting continuous improvement initiatives led by senior engineers.
- Provide operational support and coordination to factory, operations, and field personnel as needed.
- Leverage education, training, and on-the-job learning to develop industrial engineering skills.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong general computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles (TAKT time, Kanban, PDCA, cellular layouts).
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Strong spatial aptitude and ability to understand layouts and material flow.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a team-oriented, shop-floor environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to stand, walk, and observe work on the manufacturing floor as needed.
- Ability to safely navigate an active fabrication environment.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field required.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, operations, or industrial engineering.
- Internship, co-op, or exposure to continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
