What your job will be like:
In the Machine Control Center (MCC), operators, physicists, and engineers work 24 hours a day to maintain and improve the systems necessary for CEBAF beam operations. Crews operate CEBAF remotely via a sophisticated computer system that simultaneously monitors hundreds of thousands of signals and controls thousands of components. The complex cryogenic, microwave and magnet systems that make up the accelerator require constant attention and quick, knowledgeable response to provide and maintain the highest quality beams for scheduled nuclear and accelerator physics experiments. The MCC Group Leader is responsible for the overall management of the MCC Operations Group providing oversight and guidance for safe and effective accelerator operation. The incumbent will have responsibility for all technical, personnel, training, planning, and budgetary aspects of MCC Operations. The incumbent will also perform any other duties, tasks, and responsibilities assigned by management in support of Departmental, Divisional, and Laboratory goals and objectives.

In this role you will:

• Responsible for the control room operations of CEBAF twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week assuring efficient operations and high quality beam for the experimental halls.
• Ensure technical guidance is provided to the MCC control room staff in the form of procedures, system expert guidance, classroom training, and control room instructions.
• Work with the accelerator physics group (CASA) and the Controls Software Group to develop and keep current procedures for CEBAF operations.
• Review operational test plans, tune entries, and address operational problems.
• Follow up on Repair Escalation Reports assigned to Operations staff.
• Maintain Crew Chief qualifications.

Qualifications we require:

Education

• High School Diploma
• Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Experience

• 22 or more years of relevant experience

Qualifications we prefer:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree Physics, Computer Science, engineering, or related technical field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Able to manage and lead a group of over 20 Crew Chiefs and Operators in support of 24 hour accelerator control room operations.
• Able to direct, coordinate, assign and organize related technical and safety training needed to perform Accelerator Operator and Crew Chief tasks.
• Intimate Knowledge of the CEBAF Accelerator.
• Maintain qualifications as a Crew Chief, Safety System Operator and Assigned Radiation Monitor.
