Welding Assistant

Job Title : Welding Assistant Location : Salt Lake City, UT Type : Direct Hire Compensation : $20 - $27 hourly Contractor Work Model : Onsite Hours : 6am-3 : 30pm As a Welder Assistant, you will support our aluminum car body manufacturing operations by assisting Welder-Fitters in preparing, finishing, and handling aluminum components. This includes grinding, cleaning, and preparing weld seams, as well as performing post-weld corrections. Your role is essential in maintaining efficiency, quality, and safety across all stages of the welding and assembly process. Key Activities Prepare aluminum parts for welding by cleaning and prepping weld seams (e.g., with grinding or brushing tools) Support finishing and rework of welds through grinding, sanding, and polishing to meet quality standards Assist Welder-Fitters during MIG and TIG welding tasks by positioning components and managing tools and fixtures Handle, move, and align aluminum subassemblies based on technical drawings and work instructions Use measuring tools and adjust parts to meet fit and dimensional requirements Identify fabrication defects and perform corrective actions during assembly or prep work Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; ensure proper handling and storage of materials Follow all safety guidelines and support continuous improvement activities on the shop floor Qualifications Skilled in metalworking tasks such as measuring, part alignment, reading technical drawings, grinding, and identifying fabrication defects Basic experience supporting MIG and TIG welding in aluminum fabrication Hands-on knowledge of metal preparation and finishing processes Reliable and hardworking, with a strong willingness to learn and improve technical skills Physically able to lift and handle aluminum components and work standing for long periods Strong awareness of safety procedures and ability to follow detailed instructions Experience working in industrial or manufacturing environments, especially with aluminum Team-oriented, with proven ability to collaborate in a diverse, international production team What We Offer Employee benefits package includes : Low-cost, comprehensive Medical / Dental / Vision / Rx plans 401(k) with employer match after 90 days Generous Paid Time Off / 10 Paid Holidays / Extended Paid Holiday (Dec. 25 - Jan 1) Paid training / Career development Tuition and training reimbursement Paid maternity and parental leave Company-paid life and disability insurance Referral bonus program Equal Opportunity Employer System One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé, ALTA IT Services, and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
