Heavy Equipment Operator

We require :

  • Three years of experience operating trucks and equipment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Endorsements may be required for some job assignments
  • State and federal regulations require Maricopa County to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for all positions that require an applicant to possess a commercial driver's license (CDL). Maricopa County is also required to conduct a pre-employment safety history investigation for positions that directly impact commercial motor vehicle safety, but may not specifically require a valid CDL

    • We also value :

  • Experience operating motor graders, backhoes, frontend loaders, and various types of equipment

    • Job contributions :

  • Operate a variety of medium to large-sized construction and maintenance equipment / vehicles in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures
  • Plan and prioritize work tasks; read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Perform heavy manual labor assignments as needed and assist work crews as required
  • Complete required daily logs and prepare reports; attend safety meetings and other required meetings and mandatory training
  • Haul materials and transport vehicles and equipment to job sites using various trucks
  • Other job duties as assigned

    • Working conditions :

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness / humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

    • Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware :

  • Heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, and equipment; Cartegraph; Fleet management software; hand and power tools; transport trailers, chains, and detachable towing units

    • Protective equipment required :

  • All OSHA and MCDOT required PPE, including but not limited to, hard hat, safety vest, safety boots, safety glasses, and gloves

    • CDL selection procedure :

  • Only the most qualified candidates will be considered
