V2X is seeking a highlyâskilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering team in Indianapolis, IN supporting development and integration of advanced systems including situational awareness displays, mission computers, avionics, sensors, mission equipment, and radar systems. Job Description and Responsibilities :
The Senior Software Engineer in Indianapolis supports engineering teams by thriving in a fastâpaced, safetyâcritical environment. You will design, implement, and validate embedded software that runs on VxWorks, support DoDâgrade projects, and mentor the next generation of engineers. The ideal candidate will own endâtoâend delivery, from architecture to acceptance testing, while driving continuous improvement across our development processes.
- Lead Design & Implementation of safetyâcritical realâtime software on VxWorks.
- Mentor & Coach engineers, providing code reviews, technical guidance.
- SelfâOrganize & Prioritize workstreams, set realistic milestones, track progress, and communicate status to stakeholders.
- Drive Software Testing – create and maintain unit, integration, and system test suites; automate test cases where feasible.
- Integrate Hardware & Software components, participate in hardware validation, and troubleshoot integration issues.
- Support Driver Development & Signing for hardware components, ensuring proper certification and security compliance.
- Manage Virtual Environments – deploy, configure, and maintain VMs and containerized environments for development, testing, and CI / CD pipelines.
- Act as Technical Lead & Customer POC – progressively take on more responsibility in architecture ownership, client interactions, and project delivery.
- Continuous Improvement – propose and implement process, tooling, and codingâstandard enhancements.
- Participate in Lab Testing & Team Events – be physically present in Indianapolis for onâsite validation and collaboration.
Required Skills and Qualifications :
4+ years of professional experience in software development or a related engineering discipline.Demonstrated leadership with a proven ability to mentor individual engineers.Strong selfâorganization & timeâmanagement skills – able to juggle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.Handsâon experience developing for realâtime operating systems (VxWorks or equivalent).Proficiency in safetyâcritical software development and testing (DOâ178C, ISOâ¯26262, IECâ¯61508, etc.).US Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance (or higher).Able to attend lab testing and team events on site.Proficiency in C, C++, C#, and Python languagesDesired Skills :
Experience with driver development and signing for embedded platforms.Proficiency in software analysis and test tools and automation. Experience with Lattix is highly desirable.Comfortable with virtual machine and container (Docker, Kubernetes) deployment for dev and test.Background in hardware / software integration, including communication using low level data representations.Willingness to grow into a Technical Lead role and act as a customer pointâofâcontact (POC)Note : This position will require onsite work, typically a minimum of 3 days a week.
