Job Overview :
As a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality diagnostic services in a busy, fast-paced laboratory environment. You will be responsible for providing expert microbiological testing and analysis, contributing to patient care and supporting clinical teams with critical laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform a wide range of microbiological tests, including bacterial, viral, and parasitology cultures, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and other diagnostic procedures.
- Interpret microbiological results and provide advice to medical staff regarding appropriate treatment options.
- Maintain high-quality standards, ensuring that all laboratory procedures comply with relevant standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 15189, UKAS, etc.).
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of results, handling both routine and urgent cases with precision.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff and trainees, providing guidance and support to enhance their learning and professional development.
- Contribute to audits, quality assurance processes, and the continuous improvement of laboratory practices.
- Participate in on-call and weekend rotas, as required.
Essential Qualifications & Experience :
HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.Degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent).Proven experience working in a microbiology laboratory, including a solid understanding of microbiological techniques and diagnostic testing.Knowledge of laboratory accreditation and quality management systems.Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a demanding caseload.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.Ability to interpret complex microbiological data and provide accurate and timely reports.Desirable Skills & Qualifications :
Specialist portfolio or additional qualifications in Microbiology.Experience in molecular microbiology or emerging diagnostic technologies.Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
