Job Title: YReads! Program Tutor

Job Description: The YReads! Program is an exciting literacy/mentoring initiative for kindergarten through fifth-grade students, taking place at Pinellas County Schools throughout St. Petersburg, FL. The program uses curriculum-based literacy instruction to help struggling readers in areas of phonetics, sight word recognition, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As a tutor, you would provide assistance and support to the program coordinator during YReads! hours to ensure that outlined program goals and procedures are being achieved.

Duties:

• Assists in student supervision, help maintain order, and positively reinforce "good choices" when appropriate.
• Assists students to and from the restroom.
• Assists coordinator in picking up and dropping off students around the school.
• Oversees and ensures that mandatory procedures are being followed when parents or guardian are picking up students.
• Maintains necessary paper work: testing, volunteer and student sign in and out logs.
• Required to teach basic reading skills using lessons developed by the YREADS Coordinator using all curricula.
• Attends required abuse risk management training.
• Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
• Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Desire or interest in learning about literacy intervention
• Experience working with children in an educational environment
• Compassion and empathy for struggling readers
• Tutoring experience strongly preferred
• Pass a 10-panel drug screen
• Clear a Level 2 background check*

Pay & Perks: Part-time, $15.00 per hour. After school hours, 4 days per week. Approximately 15 hours per week.
