MRI Technologist

Job Description

Summary

The MRI Technologist performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of MRI images; responsible for the quality of patient care; performance of daily activities, maintenance, and quality control performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs routine to complex magnetic resonance procedures and related techniques, producing images at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.
• Level 2 MR Personnel trained and educated in the broader aspects of MR safety issues, including but not limited to issues related to the potential for RF-related thermal loading or burns and direct neuromuscular excitation from rapidly changing gradients.
• Reviews all diagnostic imaging physician orders and follows written and / or verbal protocols and instructions. All questionable orders are reviewed by Radiologist.
• Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor / lead.
• Educate patients and families regarding the exam and answer any questions as appropriate.
• Perform quality assurance, visual preventative safety inspections and report dangerous department or equipment conditions to the appropriate personnel.
• Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Ensure physician's order and patient's clinical history information is documented and available for the Radiologist.
• Review patient history and screening questions / answers to ensure patient is safe to have the exam.
