Senior Financial Reporting Analyst
Location : On-Site at Long Beach Office
Job Summary :
Champion Health Plans is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support our Managed Services Organization (MSO) operations. This role will be a key partner in preparing financial reports and quarterly DMHC filings for Independent Physician Associations (IPAs) clients, calculating and developing capitation and risk pool reports, and providing data-driven insights that enhance provider performance and payer operations. The ideal candidate has strong financial and analytical skills, experience working with healthcare data, and the ability to translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations for leadership and IPA partners.
Key Responsibilities :
Financial Analysis & IPA Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly IPA financial reports for physician groups, including revenue, medical costs, and surplus / (deficit) positions.
- Support preparation of capitation settlements, risk pool distributions, and provider reconciliations.
- Monitor performance against budgets, identifying trends and providing variance analyses for IPA groups.
- Partner with Finance leadership to support contract modeling, forecasting, and payer-provider performance improvement.
Data Analysis – Claims & Utilization
Develop and maintain claims lag analyses to track incurred but not reported (IBNR) liabilities and monitor claims payment trends.Create claims inventory analyses to identify operational backlogs and improve processing efficiency.Build dashboards and reporting tools that measure claims cycle time, adjudication trends, and financial impact of claims lag.Perform utilization and cost analyses to identify high-cost drivers, emerging risk patterns, and opportunities for medical management interventions.Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with MSO operations, provider relations, and clinical teams to deliver actionable insights that improve IPA financial and operational performance.Partner with IT and data management teams to ensure accuracy, consistency, and governance of claims and financial reporting data.Provide analytical support for leadership presentations, provider meetings, and payer negotiations.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or advanced degree a plus).5+ years of progressive experience in healthcare financial analysis, payer analytics, or MSO / IPA reporting.Strong knowledge of capitation, medical expense reporting, and provider settlements.Proficiency in Excel-based financial modeling and data analysisExperience with BI / reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or Looker) to build dashboards and visualizations is a plus.Familiarity with claims data, encounter reporting, and IBNR methodologies is a plus.Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex analyses to provider groups and executive leadership.
