Nursing Education
Our Nursing Educators frequently rely on volunteers to help set up for education classes. Nursing Education Aide volunteers will perform general office duties as well as possibly assemble packets of educational materials for classroom use. Other duties include answering the telephone, basic computer tasks, and setting up areas for Basic Life Support marathons and Pediatric Advanced Life Support validation classes.
Gift Shop Aide
The Gift Shop on Main is a full-service gift shop featuring many items for patients including plush toys and pillows, books, games puzzles, and more. Volunteers in this role will be along side staff to provide excellent customer service, gift deliveries, and assist with inventory and stocking of new merchandise.
HR Organizational Development Volunteer
Volunteers working with our Organizational Development team help set-up, greet, and assist with orientation activities for our new employees. Additionally, volunteers may also help with additional administrative task as part of our employee development program. This is a great position for those interested in Business, HR, or Psychology.
Ronald McDonald House Hospitality Cart
The Hospitality Cart will visit the children and families waiting to see the doctors in various clinics. The cart will be stocked with healthy drinks and snacks and individual activities for the children such as color books, crayons, puzzle books and reading books
Car Seat Aide
This role is vital to ensuring the overall success of the program. The volunteer is an important team member that is responsible for assisting with day-to-day operations of the Car Seat Clinic which include maintaining the safety and welfare of the children that attend appointments, as well as assisting clients throughout their appointment. Duties and other responsibilities can include but are not limited to greeting clients on arrival, providing appropriate paperwork, assisting with completing paperwork when appropriate, assisting staff with children present by entertaining the child(ren) while maintaining their safety. The Car Seat Clinic is held in the Park Place parking deck. It occurs in all weather conditions. Some areas you will gain by serving as a Car Seat Aide :
Activity Cart Volunteer
The Art Cart Program Volunteers will visit patients in their rooms on inpatient units during the evening, as well as the outpatient clinics throughout the day with a cart of creative crafts, games and puzzles. These activities help to keep children occupied, provide the parent an activity to do with their child, or provide respite for the parent as the child is engaged in their chosen activity.
Comfort Cart Volunteer
Comfort Cart volunteers will visit patients and families throughout the hospital in their room, passing out needed hygiene items. The purpose of the cart is to provide self-care items to families who may not have been prepared for a hospital admission.
Patient Relations Volunteer
The Patient Relations Department Volunteers visit newly admitted families in their rooms on inpatient units, making them aware of the wide range of support services available to them at Children's of Alabama. They assist the Patient Relations team by documenting encounters with families, such as needs for follow-up visit; reasons for missed connections with families; etc.
Social Work Aide
This volunteer will work closely with our social work team including Social Workers, Care Specialists, and Interns. This role is ideal for individuals who are interested in or currently pursuing a degree in social work or have prior experience in the field. The volunteer will assist with front desk coverage, care closet support, and help with the food boxes for distribution to our families.
Soundscapes Volunteer Music Program
The purpose of the Soundscapes Program is to offer a welcoming, soothing, environment for our patients and visitors as they listen to music in the lobby areas of the hospital. Volunteers should be prepared to share their musical talent for up to one hour duration. A variety of music is welcomed, including piano, guitar, violin, and horn instruments. Children's of Alabama has a piano for the musician to use. All other instruments must be provided by the volunteer.
