Job Summary
The Forensic Lab Supervisor – Quality Control provides technical oversight and leadership to non-exempt laboratory personnel across multiple shifts. This role ensures all operations within the forensic lab meet stringent quality and regulatory standards , coordinating workflow across teams and departments. The supervisor also oversees staff development, quality assurance measures, and compliance with federal, CAP, and state inspection standards . Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficiency in all core duties of Forensic Scientist I, II, and III , as well as group lead responsibilities.
- Supervise and direct departmental staff, assigning workloads and prioritizing non-routine procedures.
- Manage personnel functions including hiring, training, evaluations, and disciplinary actions .
- Initiate and monitor quality control measures to ensure all laboratory work meets established standards.
- Perform forensic scientist duties during staff shortages or periods of high workload.
- Oversee the implementation of new instruments, methods, and corrective actions .
- Prepare staff for Federal, CAP, and State inspections and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate the department’s annual competency testing process and documentation.
- Facilitate communication across all shifts and maintain alignment with management teams.
- Represent the department in leadership and interdepartmental meetings .
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biological Science, or a related field . Non-related degrees must include at least semester hours in Chemistry , in Biology , and in Mathematics (or as required by applicable regulations).years of experience with MT certification, or years with a BS / BA degree.Minimum year in a SAMHSA-certified laboratory required.Experience in forensic, toxicology, or diagnostic laboratory environments preferred.Required Skills
