Plant Controller - Manufacturing Position Overview
The Plant Controller will oversee the financial operations of the Woodridge, IL manufacturing facility, serving as a key business partner to the operations team. This role is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, product costing, inventory management, fixed assets, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing finance experience, advanced analytical skills, and hands-on expertise with ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Business Central. This position plays a critical role in supporting operational decision-making and driving financial performance across the plant.
Key Responsibilities Plant Performance Monitoring
- Direct the reporting and analysis of plant financial performance, ensuring accurate inventory records and timely monthly results.
- Monitor plant and production line performance, ensuring appropriate leading and lagging metrics are in place.
- Provide guidance to plant leadership on cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
- Investigate and explain major manufacturing variances, delivering actionable insights to management.
- Provide ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support timely decision-making aligned with plant goals.
- Support business development initiatives, including margin improvement analysis.
- Ensure adherence to safety, security, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Perform additional duties as assigned and follow through on requests promptly.
Budgets & Planning
Lead forecasting, budgeting, and operational cost planning activities.Prepare and present annual budgets and quantitative standards.Develop detailed annual views of direct labor, indirect labor, variable overhead, and fixed overhead.Create month-to-month forecasts and forward-looking financial analyses as needed.Capital Control
Review capital project requests for clarity, justification, and alignment with facility investment strategy.Serve as a resource for capital-related questions throughout project development.Provide financial analysis to support business growth and margin improvement initiatives.ERP System Expertise
Serve as the subject matter expert for ERP modules across finance and operations.Analyze workflows, security, and integration points to optimize system performance.Stay current on ERP updates, patches, and new features to identify improvement opportunities.Support ERP upgrades and implementations by assessing impacts and developing transition strategies.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree preferred.5+ years of manufacturing or related finance experience.3+ years of finance and operational leadership within a manufacturing environment.Advanced Excel skills with the ability to build and maintain financial models.Experience with Microsoft Business Central or similar ERP systems.Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.Benefits
