About the Role
The Cardiologist is a licensed / board‑certified professional playing a key role as part of the clinical operations team, providing direct patient care and assessments primarily in ambulatory health‑care center settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care, care coordination, echocardiogram reading, population management of market members, and oversight of PCPs cardiovascular skills.
- Lead a cardiovascular care team that may include Care Promoters, Echocardiogram / X‑ray Technicians, and in some cases a mid‑level (ARNP or PA) dedicated to cardiology depending on scope and member volume.
- Assist the Medical Director, Cardiology (MDC) in managing day‑to‑day clinical and business operations and building relationships with providers and key stakeholders for all ChenMed / JenCare / Dedicated Senior Health centers within the market.
- Consult with the Medical Director, Cardiology to ensure guideline compliance and participate in risk and quality management programs, clinical meetings and other initiatives that maximize and promote clinical value.
- Manage care of chronic cardiovascular diseases for a panel of at minimum 5,000 patients (with support of the Care Team and Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant).
- Assess patients’ ability to withstand cardiovascular or other surgeries and help surgeons or invasive cardiologists in managing strategy for the patient, including clearing patient for surgery.
- Run and accurately read EKG, chest X‑rays and echoes; order studies, tests and ancillary services as needed.
- Limit external cardiovascular care where high‑quality internal care can be provided.
- Prescribe medication and treatment in accordance with patient condition, payer coverage / guidelines and industry standards.
- Review PCP requests for external cardiology referrals and participate in delegated utilization authorizations.
- May have responsibility for cardiology clinical operations of 2–5 centers in the market, under MD, CVC supervision.
- Exercise final medical judgment in issues of health care for paneled patients.
- Provide patient education related to heart disease, wellness, prevention and early detection.
- Assist with training and hiring of dedicated cardiology Care Promoters and NPs / PAs.
- Coach and mentor PCP physicians and other clinicians in cardiology management.
- Participate in cardiovascular team meetings, daily huddles and focused clinical discussions.
- Aid with quality and performance initiatives and cost‑reduction and market clinical strategies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficient in pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the Cardiology field.Superior clinical skills managing seniors with complex medical needs across all environments of care.Exceptional communication skills and ability to build relationships with external organizations.Proficient in cultivating strong relationships with primary care physicians and care teams.Strong analytical skills and results‑oriented mindset.Conflict management and resolution skills; experience in population risk management or complex chronic disease care management preferred.Effective verbal and written communication, proper telephone etiquette.Professional, tactful manner.Comfortable with electronic medical record and keyboarding.Proficient Microsoft Office skills.Willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 15% of the time.Spoken and written fluency in English.Use and exercise of independent judgment required.Education and Experience
MD or DO in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics or similar specialty required.Board certification in Cardiology required; other sub‑specialty training and board certification acceptable.Current, unrestricted and active license to practice medicine in state of employment.Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration required.Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Cardiologist required.Prior experience with interdisciplinary teams in quality improvement or medical / healthcare leadership activities preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within first 90 days of employment.Pay Range
$270,461 - $386,372 Salary
