About the Role
A well-established, family-owned organization with over four decades of industry expertise is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Structural Designer to join its growing team. The company specializes in the design, construction, service, and maintenance of swimming pools and outdoor living environments, serving both high-end residential clients and commercial facilities throughout Maryland.
This role focuses on creating permit-ready construction documents for outdoor living environments including pools, pool houses, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, hardscapes, and associated site features. You will collaborate closely with construction and project management teams to ensure smooth execution from concept through project completion.
Key Responsibilities
Client Interaction
- Conduct on-site consultations for residential and commercial projects.
- Translate client goals into creative, functional, and buildable designs.
Design Expertise
Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed designs focused on quality and constructability.Produce structural designs, drawings, and specifications for pools, spas, and outdoor structures.Perform engineering calculations for concrete, steel reinforcement, retaining walls, soil loads, and hydraulic considerations.Construction Documentation
Prepare permit-ready plans and construction documents for pools, pool houses, hardscapes, and outdoor living spaces.Ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes.Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and permitting agencies.Review site conditions, soil reports, and project constraints to ensure safe, efficient design solutions.Manage revisions, updates, and version control throughout the project lifecycle.Collaboration
Partner with construction and project management teams to ensure the intended design is executed accurately.Provide technical guidance during construction as needed.Maintain alignment across sales, design, and construction phases.Professional Growth
Stay up-to-date on design tools, materials, and industry trends to maintain and improve skill proficiency.Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Design, or a related field (required).Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred, but experienced non-licensed designers / engineers will be considered.2+ years of experience in structural design; pool, water feature, or concrete structure experience is a strong plus.Proficiency with software such as AutoCAD / LandFX, Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, Enscape, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.Solid understanding of grading, hardscape detailing, pool layout, construction practices, shotcrete / gunite structures, pool hydraulics, plumbing layouts, soil engineering, and retaining structures.Strong drafting, visual, written, and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage projects from concept through permit-ready documentation with construction coordination as needed.Benefits
