APPROXIMATE PAY RANGE :
$85.43 - $105.07
Under general supervision is responsible for maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and angiography. Provides direct patient care, assessment, planning and intervention. Assists with patient preparation and management during catheterization and angiography procedures, including physiologic and cardiac output monitoring. Assists with sterilization, inventory, and maintenance of cath trays and related supplies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Nursing Process
Inserts and maintains intravenous lines as needed
Prepares, dispenses and monitors medications during cases in the Cardiovascular Lab
Assists with maintenance of drug inventory
Maintains preparedness and inventory of emergency resuscitation equipment
Maintains close observation of patient for complications, i.e. hypotension, allergic reactions, bleeding, and arrhythmias
Patient Preparation
Assists with patient preparation and management during the cardiac catheterization procedure and angiography
Sets up sterile trays for procedure, scrubs patient, and acts as scrub assistant during catheterization and angiography
Maintains patient confidentiality
Plans and organizes own workload with regard to various cardiovascular assignments as team member
Supervises trainees and cardiovascular lab employees
Demonstrates professional conduct in interacting. Requires contact with other departments, patients and public where lack of tack and poise could cause serious reactions with other departments
Operates Physiologic Monitoring and Radiography equipment
Records intra-cardiac pressures, ECS and other physiologic data on a homodynamic recorder
Calculates pressure gradients, valve areas, vascular resistance, shunt abnormalities, and cardiac output using computer, or by hand calculation in the event of computer failure
Operates cardiac output computer, oximeter, ergometer, and related cardiovascular equipment.
Ensures that caution is used in the area of physical assets to avoid costly damage or waste. Area uses costly and easily damaged equipment.
Maintains constant attention to protect safety and welfare of patients and others
Demonstrates competence in the care of pediatric or frail elderly groups of patients (when / if assigned to these patients) relative to determining each patient's age-related and other physical, psychosocial and cultural needs and carrying out patient care activities.
Assists with patient position and radiographic equipment as needed
Assists for preparation and operation of madras power injector for cardiac angiography
Assists with film processing
Assists in maintaining cine quality control program as outline by the Supervisor, Cath Lab
Assists in CardioVascular Lab preparation and turn around for next patient procedures and maintenance of diagnostic environment
Assists with sterilization and maintenance of cath trays, catheters, and other related supplies and equipment.
Assists with restocking supplies for the CardioVascular lab.
Provides input for patient billing.

Other Duties
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Cath Lab Supervisor
Required Qualification :
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing preferred.
RCIS certification must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
Experience
Proper training in a Cardiovascular Lab and (1) years of previous experience in ICU / CCU or emergency CCRN.
Cath Lab / IR nursing experience preferred.
Skills
Physical Requirements
The duties as described will required frequent standing and walking.
The employee will frequently bend / stoop, squat, reach above the shoulders, twist and turn, kneel, and push / pull.
The employee will frequently be required to lift / pull / push / move up to 50 pounds.
May occasionally perform CPR, push respirators, and cylinder carts, and frequently help position patients in bed and / or transport patients via bed / gurney.
Visual ability : Near acuity; 8? to 16?, Mid-focal acuity : 16? to 3?, Far visual acuity; 20? and greater.
Must utilize conversational speech for effective verbal communication.
Noise level is high in some patient care areas. Must be able to hear equipment alarms, overhead pages, and direct verbal communication.
Hazards
Will have close contact with patients and is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids.
Often exposed to infection. Will be fit tested for particulate respirator.
Works with electrical equipment.
Occasional exposure to radiation (X-Ray)
