SUNY Reconnect - Enrollment and Retention Counselor

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of two years' experience in post-secondary admissions or related Student Services position, strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, parents, students and high school counselors required. Schedule may include working evening and weekend hours based on job needs. Spanish-speaking is preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties : The Enrollment & Retention Counselor will report to the Associate Dean of SOAR, or their designee :

1. Identifies and contacts former SUNY Reconnect eligible students who stopped out (via e-mail, phone, text, or CRM)

2. Partner with academic advisors, faculty, and student affairs to ensure smooth re-entry.

3. Helps develop and implement initiatives to improve stop-out re-engagement and completion rates.

4. Re-engage students by discussing their goals, barriers, and options for returning.

5. Analyzes trends in student attrition and work on strategies to reduce future stop-outs.

6. Provide personalized support and encouragement to help students feel welcomed and valued.

7. Assists SUNY Reconnect students in a review of their eligibility for credit for prior learning and transfer credits and connect students to those resources.

8. Engages students in establishing successful behaviors and monitor their process by connecting students to different on and off campus resources.

9. Assists with the coordination and implementation of retention strategies and provide intervention for students.

10. Ensures SUNY Reconnect students remain engaged, retained, and are on progression for completion.

11. Keeps current with trends and best practices related to student retention and completion.

12. Assists with aspects of the College Success Referral System to assist SUNY Reconnect students.

13. Provides guidance to non-traditional student cohorts to foster a sense of belonging and self-efficacy.

14. Facilitates retention focused workshops for SUNY Reconnect students.

15. Other duties assigned.

This position is contingent upon continued Grant Funding through the SUNY Reconnect Program.

This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary of $48,000.
