Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for the role of Vice President of Engagement within the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Engagement the RHA Vice President of Engagement acts as third in line for hierarchy of the RHA Executive Board and is vital to the main aspects that which RHA stands and work for students.

The RHA Vice President of Engagement oversees all aspects of advocacy programming efforts diversity and civic engagement activities on behalf of students and has significant impact on the overall resident experience on campus.

Responsibilities

The Vice President of Engagement is charged with assisting in the planning of RHA and Leadership Council trainings in recruitment of Board of Director vacancies when appropriate and supervises the Board of Directors.

The incumbent is to attend RHA events and assist in planning major opening events while completing weekly RHA reports.

The Vice President of Engagement is to attend various meetings as scheduled including one on one with the RHA President and Coordinator for Student Engagement.

The VP of Engagement will also have the opportunity to serve as the PACURH / NACURH National Communications Coordinator.

Other duties of the VP of Engagement include :

Overseeing the Programming Board and co-supervision of the RHA Board of Directors with the RHA Advisor / Coordinator for Student Engagement

Attending all required meetings coordinating and implementing at least 2-3 fundraising initiative for the year as appropriate

Seeing that RHA put on at least two large and two small scale events per semester

Record and manage General Council meetings

The VP for Engagement will also oversee the Spring Leadership Banquet and its planning while completing scheduled office hours in the RHA Resource Center.

This position requires constant follow up and partnership with University Leadership & host town halls to ensure the betterment of the university community.

This position is a required live on position and the incumbent will receive a living space within one of our residential communities as well as a designated meal plan.

Attendance at all Fall and Spring trainings are required in person. The RHA VP of Engagement will be allowed and is required to move into their assigned living space on campus the Sunday prior to Residence Life Student Staff Training typically beginning the first week of August.

This position requires the successful candidate to be knowledgeable In and to follow RHA RLHFS and University guidelines regarding finances.

Other duties include :

Completing weekly RHA reports

Assisting with the development of agendas for board meetings

Completing assigned office hours in the RHA Resource Center.

Required Qualifications

Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Nevada Reno

Candidate must successfully complete a minimum of 15 credits per semester of employment.

Credit-load is limited to 17 credits per semester.

Those who wish to request enrollment in less than 15 credits or 18 credits may do so by gaining approval.

Candidate must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (both semester and cumulative) while holding the Board of Director position. Failure to meet this expectation at any point while in this position may result in probation or termination at the sole discretion of UNR.

While holding this position the Vice President of Engagement must get approval for any secondary employment.

During the length of employment students must not hold a position elsewhere on campus that would regularly conflict with duties as assigned in this role. This includes roles that would conflict with mandatory training dates & times.

Successful candidates will also exhibit the following :

Residential life operations and procedures

Conflict resolution

General higher educational procedures as defined by Nevada System of Higher Education; solving for students issues and concerns

Program development and administration

Finances related to RHA RLHFS and University guidelines; Open Meeting Law; Rules of Order;

Personnel supervision / management

Leadership

Interpersonal Communications

Dispute and conflict resolution

Public relations and customer service

Excellent written and verbal communication

Decision making and creative problem solving

Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word Access Excel PowerPoint and email)

Ability to :

Work and interact with diverse populations of students parents faculty and staff in a positive and productive manner

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Plan and implement programs that support departmental goals

Manage staff and work as a team leader

Exercise sound judgment to make objective fair and consistent decisions

Support the University Student Services and department mission and goals

Work evenings and weekends and travel as needed

Schedule

Expected hours to work per week : 15

The RHA Vice President of Engagement will serve 15 hours per week and be compensated with an appropriate room and meal plan provided by the department. These 15 hours will include all duties as assigned as well as scheduled office hours within the RHA Resource Center additional meetings and / or events required by said position. Attendance at all RHA sponsored events will be considered mandatory unless preapproved absences by the Coordinator for Student Engagement are made in advance.

Compensation Grade

Student Employee Level 1

A room in the residence hall (Depending on building / room assignment students employed may be assigned a roommate) and utilities.

Academic Year meal plan which includes options for weekly meals in dining venues across campus and an allotment of Food Bucks

During Fall Training (August) and Winter Training (January) meals will be provided by the department as part of training.

Candidates can expect to regularly work up to 15 hours per week between mandatory office hours meetings and programming initiatives.

RHA Live On compensation may interfere with any financial aid you may receive. It is your responsibility to consult the Financial Aid office to discuss any potential impacts
