Medical Assistant

Overview

Supporting Community Healthcare is a rewarding role. LifeLong Medical Care is looking for a Medical Assistant at our Pinole and Rodeo Health Centers. The Medical Assistant is part of a patient-centered care team located in a teaching health center composed of a Family Medicine Provider, medical assistant, and auxiliary staff providing urgent and primary care health services in a community health center setting. Under the general supervision of the Back Office Supervisor and Lead Medical Assistant, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting medical providers by completing basic clerical and clinical tasks utilizing Electronic Health Record systems. The medical assistant will collaboratively work in a teaching health center with family medicine residents, family medicine faculty, as well as other specialty providers.

This is a full time, benefit eligible position, working 40 hours / week.

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW. Salaries and benefits are set by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and an employee in this position must remain a member in good standing of SEIU-UHW, as defined in the CBA.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Back Office Supervisor and Lead Medical Assistant, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting medical providers by completing basic clerical and clinical tasks utilizing Electronic Health Record systems. The medical assistant will collaboratively work in a teaching health center with family medicine residents, family medicine faculty, as well as other specialty providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Administrative

• Utilize an Electronic Health Record system to document patient registration, chief complaint, vital signs, review of systems, medication and health history, community health measures, including tobacco use and patient tracking.
• Assist in patient flow by timely rooming of patients and maintaining an awareness of exam room availability and timing.
• Provide back-up for the front desk with answering telephones, medical reception, financial eligibility, cashiering and medical records.
• Perform patient discharge activities, including but not limited to completion of referral forms, instructions regarding filling prescriptions, making appointments, copying forms and other activities as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
• Assist with patient calls via warm transfers from the call center.
• Assist with calls / faxes from pharmacies and other entities with whom we collaborate for patient care.
• Assist with responding to secure messages from patients under protocols developed by the clinic medical director.
• Manage tasks sent electronically by medical providers and other staff
