Supervises & Coordinates : Union staff and seasonal ushers employed as part of the Bronx Zoo Security Department.
Position Objective : To effectively and efficiently assist in the management of the Security Department of the Bronx Zoo, providing a safe and secure environment for all staff, volunteers and visitors to the park. Safeguard the well being of the park's living animal collection; to provide and supervise protection of all of the Society's physical assets including buildings, exhibits, vehicles and all other properties. To contribute effectively in creating the best possible guest experience for those visiting the zoo.
Principal Responsibilities :
- Supervise and schedule, as directed by the senior managers, the eighteen union staff members and additional temporary staff to provide safety and security for the park, its employees, guests and animal collection on a 365 day per year, 24 hour basis.
- Supervise and monitor the patrol rounds of the security force during non-public hours, as directed by the security manager, checking Detex reports and daily patrol logs submitted by security members working on the 3-11 and 11-7 shifts.
- Monitor radio communication throughout the park and respond or direct others to respond to requests for assistance in an efficient and effective manner. This response extends to providing information and assistance to guests on routine matters in the park as well as special situations including, but not limited to reports of theft, vandalism, personal crimes and medical emergencies.
- Assist senior managers motivate and direct security personnel to respond and interact with zoo guests in a friendly and helpful manner, with the prime emphasis on creating an excellent visitor experience.
- Prepare thorough, concise written and oral reports for the VP and Director, Bronx Zoo on any serious incidents or occurrences in the park as required in the absence of the senior managers.
- Respond to and assist appropriate senior staff in emergency situations involving problems with mechanized rides, animal escapes and intruders into exhibits. Provide back-up support to the senior managers in coordinating NYPD presence and activity as well as setting up perimeter crowd control measures as appropriate.
- Assist Park Nurse when necessary and appropriate with aided cases. Work with NYPD stationed in the park to provide proper medical response in accident and emergency situations in the absence of First Aid staff. Request NYFD ambulance response to the site when needed.
- Responsible for the handling and supervision of lost children in the park and reuniting them with their parents or other authorized adult guardians.
- Represent WCS, as directed by the security manager in any criminal prosecution concerning incidents that have taken place on park grounds. May also represent the Society in civil cases pursued by the Bronx Zoo, and in accident cases involving guests, employees or volunteers.
- Communicate and coordinate service and repair for alarms as needed with outside technicians and service people in the absence of or at the request of the security manager.
- On call on a twenty-four hour basis to respond in person to emergency calls by security personnel regarding problems during non-operation hours.
- Custodian for lost property found in the park, contacting and reuniting said property with owners whenever possible.
- Represent the Security Department at Society meetings, and at meetings with outside agencies and departments as requested by senior supervisors.
- Maintain the Society's standards for quality and professionalism and enhanced guest experience throughout the park and its facilities and exhibits.

The physical demands include but are not limited to the use of a Keyboard, 10-key, Mouse, and Telephone Use, Handwriting, Sitting, Standing, Crouching, Kneeling, Bending, Walking, Stair Climbing, minimal Driving, and Lifting up to 50lbs.Workplace Conditions and Environment :

Salary Range : $70,000-$80,000
