Now. Make. Art. (NMA) Teaching Artists oversee young people’s bold and joyful artistic inquiry at youth-centered, intergenerational arts programs across the state of MN. NMA is looking to expand our creative team with multiple contract teaching artists who will lead Winter / Spring 2025 enrichment classes with the possibility of continuing on for summer camps and events!

This position is hiring immediately to lead specific arts enrichment programs with various Community Education organizations around the Twin Cities during the dates listed below. Most programs are for mixed grade levels of K-5th grade. Learn more at

All Training & meeting hours are paid at the same rate

Hours : varied (see times listed above)

Compensation : $30 / hour including prep, set-up / take-down, and some transportation time from your twin cities residence.

Reports to : Alicia Rice, Program Manager of Now. Make. Art.

Locations : schools in and around the Twin Cities including White Bear Lake, Stillwater, Eden Prairie, St. Paul, and Roseville, MN.

Number of positions available : 1-2

Candidates must be available for all class dates in a series. Training times will be scheduled based on the contractor’s schedule.

Weekly classes :

Tuesdays, February 3 to February 24 – 3 : 10-5 : 05

Tuesdays, February 10 to March 3 – 4 : 45- 6 : 30

Thursdays, March 5 to April 2 (no class March 12) – 2 : 05-3 : 50

Thursdays / Fridays April 9 to May 1 – 2 : 05-3 : 50

Wednesdays, April 15 to May 6 – 2 : 05- 4 : 20

Thursdays, April 16 to May 7 – 2 : 05- 4 : 20

Wednesdays, April 29 to May 27 – 3 : 00- 5 : 15

Tuesdays, May 5 to June 2 – 2 : 05-3 : 50

Single day classes / events :

Jan 30 – 8 : 30- 2 : 30

Since classes are sign up based, any classes with less than 6 students will be cancelled. We let Teaching Artists know of cancellation a week before class was scheduled to start. Classes with 12 or more students are eligible to have a teaching artists assistant.

Preference will be given to Teaching Artists with flexible afternoon schedules who can sub for teachers when needed.

There will also be opportunities to support larger classes as a teaching assistant ($25 / hr) as well as a sub for other artists who need to miss a week ($30 / hr).

Duties / Responsibilities

Will lead afterschool multidisciplinary arts programs for elementary students (age 5-11 years old).

Follow class curriculum outlines while adding your own sparkle around the projects, games, and art activities, and play activities.

Supervise groups of 6-18 young people including during breaks, arrival and departure from the program.

Oversee the smooth running of this program from set-up to take-down.

Pick up supplies at the start of the class at our NMA headquarters in St. Paul.

Store materials throughout the run of the class.

Serve as the site contact for community partners fielding questions and offering incredible welcome and support.

Communicate frequently with NMA staff about the program.

Model appropriate engagement according to Now. Make. Art. method of power-sharing engagement with youth and their communities.

Serve as a co-conspirator in the art-making process with participants.

Set an example of positive participation, inquiry-focused, and responsiveness throughout each event.

Ensure that materials and supplies are cleaned, organized, and maintained.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Valid driver’s license and consistent access to a vehicle to transport materials (including cart and 2-3 totes) to and from work sites located around the Twin Cities and materials sites located in St. Paul.

Ability to stay organized, read complex schedules, and show up to events on time.

Special interest in the capacity of young people to lead without adult intervention or correction.

Experience engaging with the public with a diverse range of age, background, and experience in creative processes.

Experience working with elementary-aged students in creative endeavors.

Excellent communication skills

Preferred 5+ years of experience as a teaching artist in visual or time-based art.

A passion for collective making! You believe bringing your ideas together with others’ creates a bigger impact than creating individually.

A belief that every person is an artist (age 0-111) and has the capacity to make important contributions to their community and enact change.
