Job Title :

Senior Database Administrator (Oracle & Microsoft) Location : 200 W Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD 21201 About the Role : The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) plays a vital role in maintaining and optimizing the Maryland State Department of Education’s enterprise data infrastructure.

This position ensures high availability, security, and performance across hundreds of virtual and physical servers, enabling efficient access to critical educational data statewide.

Your Impact :

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will : Manage and optimize Oracle, PostgreSQL, IBM DB2, and Microsoft SQL Server databases across Production, Development, and Test Environments.

Oversee 300+ VMware virtual servers and physical rack-mounted systems connected to NetApp All-Flash and EMC SAN storage arrays.

Support AWS migration, refactoring, and RDS integration efforts.

Administer IBM Cognos Business Intelligence platforms, including ReportNet and Impromptu.

Perform enterprise-grade server and database backups using CommVault Complete Data Protection and AWS Backup utilities.

Implement and maintain data integration workflows with informatica and R

Stars systems, ensuring data accuracy and process automation.

Manage VMware, SAN, and AWS environments, handling provisioning, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance with data security, PII protection, and state IT policies.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues and maintain optimal system uptime.

Influence enterprise-wide database strategy and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams.

These responsibilities are not meant to be all-inclusive; additional tasks may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

At least five (5) years of progressive experience as a Senior Database Administrator.

Certification as both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Database Administrators.

Proficiency with tools and technologies including VMware, Oracle, SQL Server, IBM DB2, PostgreSQL, NetApp SANs, and CommVault.

Strong SQL tuning, backup / recovery, and system performance optimization skills.

Standout Qualifications :

Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex enterprise-level database environments.

Expertise in high-availability, multi-tier architectures under mission-critical conditions.

Experience supporting cloud migration and data center modernization projects.

Exceptional troubleshooting, organization, and communication skills.

Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and technically demanding environment.

Pay Range :

$60.00 / hr.
