At the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD), our mission goes beyond software—we use science, conservation, and innovation to protect Arizona’s fish, wildlife, and habitats for current and future generations. Under the authority of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, we create and implement regulations and programs that support conservation, enforcement, hunting, fishing, recreation, and shooting sports across the state.
We are seeking a talented Applications Developer who wants their technical skills to make a meaningful impact. The Applications Developer plays a vital role in advancing the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s mission by delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality software solutions that support conservation, wildlife management, and public services. This position develops new applications aligned with approved functional and technical designs, while also implementing fixes and enhancements to existing systems in accordance with best practices and established development standards.
The Applications Developer proactively analyzes and resolves application issues , including complex technical challenges, and provides responsive support for production systems by quickly addressing production-related issues and fulfilling end-user service requests. Through comprehensive unit and system testing, the developer ensures the integrity, performance, and stability of all application changes.
Working closely with business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders, this role contributes to the refinement and finalization of functional specifications and produces project deliverables in compliance with Software Development Guidelines. By combining strong technical expertise with collaboration and problem-solving, the Applications Developer helps modernize departmental systems and supports a more efficient, digital-first environment that directly benefits Arizona’s fish, wildlife, and outdoor recreation community.

Job Duties :
As an Applications Developer, you will play a critical role in delivering reliable, secure, and user-friendly applications that support both internal staff and the public. The Applications Developer will develop new software applications and systems, provide technical support to both internal and external customer base, troubleshoot code, participate in peer reviews, and thoroughly test code. Applications include public facing applications, dealer interfaces, etc., and other applications that work towards a digital and paperless technical environment that moves us towards more automation for the department. In addition to providing support for the Department's critical systems, this position will also be assigned to projects from the project management team.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) :
The candidate will have knowledge of multiple programming languages; database management systems, specifically MSSQL, and development platforms; designing and developing mobile applications; .NET web based systems; AWS products and services; code reviews and writing code. The candidate will be skilled in customer service; interpersonal, virtual, written and oral communication; skills; critical thinking; organization; meeting deadlines; creating project documentation; producing reusable / standardized code; and good attention to details. The candidate will have the ability to balance, prioritize and organize multiple tasks; work collaboratively in teams and across organizations; synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly; quickly learn and develop in new programming languages, APIs, and platforms; creative solutions to business problems; effectively evaluate and anticipate development risk or negative impacts.
Selective Preference(s) :
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Information Systems plus 5 or more years of programming and analysis (or equivalent experience). Experience with Xamarin is preferred.
