Post-Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor; plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the study of the role of innate and adaptive immune system in cardiovascular diseases; collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH), as well as by other agencies; identifies and selects problems to be studied; develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols; attends research seminars; contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing; participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding.
The research project focuses on understanding the role of myosin motors in health and disease. We combine state-of-the-art structural biology approaches including cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and electrophysiology with biochemical, biophysical, and cell biological methods to investigate how myosin motor function in heart diseases.
Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for the proposed studies and have generous access to a Titan Krios G3i Cryo-TEM equipped with a K3 direct electron detector, imaging phase plates, and an image spherical aberration corrector. In addition, our labs have access to Glacios with a falcon III detector and Ceta-D camera for MicroED analysis at the world-class Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS) at the Ohio State University.
Minimum Education and Skills / Experience Required / Desired
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in structural biology, biochemistry, or a related field. For this position, expertise in structural biology, preferably cryo-EM, is desired.
