The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a 4/4 load of undergraduate composition and rhetoric courses across our First-Year English and 200-400 level professional writing programs and may teach courses in writing pedagogy and/or linguistics as qualifications permit. USCB faculty are likewise expected to mentor and advise students, pursue a robust scholarly agenda, and provide service to department, university, professional, and local communities.
Those interested in and/or with experience serving as First-Year English coordinator for a small program where all English faculty across ranks and appointments teach our two-course sequence in composition and rhetoric, may also have the opportunity to pursue an annually renewable administrative appointment as First-Year English Program Coordinator, a position that involves curricular review and revision, assessment and outcomes reporting, as well as leading part- and full-time faculty professional development and support. We are especially seeking candidates with an established record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service who demonstrate high levels of collaborative engagement with students and colleagues.
This position is a 9-month appointment, commencing in August 2026. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
USCB is located in Beaufort County, home to sixty-eight Sea Islands, and includes the cities of Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island. The university is an independently accredited institution within the University of South Carolina system and is a small PUI (~ 2000 students).
The Bluffton "main" Campus is located where Beaufort and Jasper Counties meet, while the Beaufort Campus lies in the heart of historic Beaufort. USCB takes seriously its role in the stewardship of the socially and culturally diverse historical significance of the complex and beautiful region in which it is located.
The successful candidate will clearly articulate their vision for contributing to USCB's local and regional engagement.
Please be prepared to provide/upload a Teaching Statement and Research Statement. We will also require a Cover Letter and CV for all applicants.
Please notify those providing your letters of recommendation that they will need to be on letterhead (if applicable) and require a physical signature.
