The Organization

Francophone Charter School of Oakland is a French immersion charter school that opened its doors in 2015. Our mission is to provide a dual-immersion curriculum to a diverse community of students and to develop bilingual and bi-literate global citizens who are open minded and who value intellectual curiosity, personal integrity and creativity. We are a small (350 students in TK-8), tight-knit international community that is looking to expand its staff. No knowledge of French is required for the positions posted here.

Summary of Position

The ELD teacher is responsible for teaching and supporting student achievement in the area of English Language Development, Academic Intervention, and Behavior Support. The teacher provides individual or small group instruction to ELstudents and to those who’ve been identified as working below grade level in reading and/or math or needing additional support with English. This teacher is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance and coordinating the ELPAC testing.

Requirements:

English Language Development

• Increases the academic performance of English Learners by designing and implementing pullout and/or push-in language acquisition instruction for English Learners.
• Builds school-wide capacity of best practices for English Learners through co-planning/teaching, planning and facilitating professional development, and collaborating with teachers and administrators.
• Assists with administration of all state mandated testing for English Learners.
• Responsible for entering data and keeping English Learner files in compliance with federal, state and local mandates and provisions.
• Requires flexibility as caseload is dependent on the shifting needs of Francophone students; should expect to teach multiple and varying grade levels.

Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening Intervention

• Provide direct individual and small group instruction at Tier 2 and 3 level.
• Use research based literacy intervention strategies to support students.
• Use positive intervention strategies to support students and promote their social-emotional growth and development.
• Analyze student literacy data to inform instruction and support.
• Requires flexibility as caseload is dependent on the shifting needs of Francophone students; should expect to teach multiple and varying grade levels.

Behavior Support

• Follow the PBIS program
• Promote school values
• Practice restorative interventions for behavior management
