Position Summary
The Department of Internal Medicine, one of the largest and most fiscally complex departments within the UNM School of Medicine, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations across 14 divisions, 400+ faculty and staff, and an $80M annual budget. This role requires a strategic financial leader who can guide a team of professionals, ensure compliance with university and regulatory standards, and partner with departmental leadership on financial planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead departmental financial operations, including budget development, projections, reporting, and compliance across unrestricted, clinical, grant, and endowment funds
- Partner with leadership on strategic financial planning, transparency, and resource allocation to advance academic, clinical, and research missions
- Provide oversight and direction for clinical revenue strategies, optimizing growth and sustainability in collaboration with vice chairs and practice specialists
- Supervise and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, service, and professional growth
- Prepare and deliver high-level financial analyses and reports for departmental, divisional, and school leadership.

Conditions of Employment Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, Accounting, or related)
- Experience with Banner Finance or comparable enterprise systems
- Proven ability to analyze complex data and present findings to non-financial audiences
- Proficiency in health system finance within an academic medical school, including budgeting and RVU tracking
- Experience creating financial tracking systems that provide non-financial leaders with clear insight into budgets, fund utilization and department/division-level performance
- Proven ability to summarize and present large, complex budgets in a clear, concise manner to a variety of stakeholders
- Strong leadership and communication skills with ability to collaborate across diverse stakeholders
- High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism
