Master Control Operator – Nebraska Public Media, Lincoln

Overview

Nebraska Public Media, Nebraskas PBS & NPR Stations, is seeking a skilled professional to perform broadcast and network operations for our Media Control and Network Operations Center. This role involves scheduled switching operations using automated playlists and manual processes; managing video server, optical disc, and recording / playback for TV, radio, cable, VOD, and streaming services; monitoring transmitters statewide; and ensuring quality through technical measurements. The position also oversees auxiliary services such as closed captioning, SAP, audio description, Nebraska Public Media Radio, and Radio Talking Book. Additional responsibilities include managing the Emergency Alert and AMBER systems, satellite uplinks, and coordination with PBS.

Performs scheduled switching operations for Nebraska Public Medias Media Control and / or Network Operations Center as logged, using automated playlists and manual processes.

Performs video server, videotape, and optical disc operations; records and plays programming for all of Nebraska Public Medias multi-channel broadcast television, cable, Video-On-Demand, and streaming services.

Uses remote control software to operate statewide Digital TV, FM and HD radio transmitters and translators.

Performs on-going system measurements using waveform monitors, vector scopes stream analyzers, and audio measurement devices.

Monitor and control all auxiliary services, including but not limited to Closed Captioning.

Responsible for control of the statewide Emergency Alert System and AMBER alerts.

Other duties include satellite uplinks and coordination with the Public Broadcasting Service on their Diverse, Disaster, and Maintenance Satellite Uplink System

Minimum Qualifications :

Three years of experience in broadcast electronics, television production, switching master control or advanced schooling in a related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge :

broadcast operations; electronic test equipment; high definition, standard definition and analog television signals, and be computer literate; FCC and Nebraska Public Media policies, rules and regulations; operation of a variety of monitoring and test equipment including video servers; television automation playlists, videotape machines; broadcast switching operations; and internet streaming equipment.

Ability :

interpret a variety of video test signals; operate broadcast technical equipment; maintain audio and video quality to prescribed professional standards; operate video monitors, satellite receivers, videotape machines, video servers, transmission equipment, and computer-based broadcast automation equipment; video streaming encoders; work independently under pressure and react quickly and correctly; communicate effectively and through computer-generated discrepancy reports.

Wage :

Starting at $20.863, salary commensurate with education / experience
