Cannot submit to more than one position at a time within the whole system. Unit has 28 private beds. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Patient to nurse ratios are 1 : 4-5, with MedSurg acuity at 1 : 6. The electronic medical record system is currently Cerner - EPIC. The day charge nurse has no assignments, but the night charge nurse may have an assignment. There are two nurse aides per shift during the day and mid-shift. No certified nursing assistant is present at night after 11 p.m. Every other weekend is required, including Saturday and Sunday. Every other holiday is also required, working into the permanent staff holiday rotation. Scrub color is navy blue, and jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue. Tele monitors are available. Nurses must be able to read and interpret strips, although there is a monitor tech. Must be able to titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin. Insulin is only set-rate, with no sedation drips. Bipap, Cpap, and high flow are used for ventilatory support. A hospitalist is in-house 24 / 7, with an intensivist available in the ICU seven days a week. The respiratory team is available 24 / 7. The pharmacy is also in-house and available 24 / 7. Shifts include nurses working 12-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 : 30 p.m. CNA shifts are 8 hours from 6 : 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 2 : 30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The director communicates well with staff and travelers regarding schedules. Block scheduling is allowed, making it easy to work with management. Floating to ICU will be required as helping hands. Floor-specific orientation consists of two shifts with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include heavy cardiac issues, dysrhythmias, CVAs, and various patients downgraded from the ICU. Cancellation policy allows for two shift cancellations per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using EPIC. A BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level is acute care.
