Assistant Human Capital Manager

The Actuarial Practice of Oliver Wyman works with companies to manage property and casualty, life and annuity, and healthcare risks across a broad range of industries. Our firm assists with quantification of risk and loss exposures, and provides advice on external business strategy, internal risk management, implications of mergers and acquisitions, and new product development. We use mathematical and statistical modeling skills and our qualitative assessment methodologies to assist our clients in evaluating and addressing risk. We offer solutions so our clients may manage and prepare for the potential financial consequences of uncertain future events.
The Assistant Human Capital Manager plans and administers human resources activities for Oliver Wyman Actuarial colleagues in multiple offices, including Toronto, Montreal, and Chicago among others. Will provide frontline HR support to employees and management along with providing regional support to the HC Operations team. Responsibilities include the coordination and support of a variety of Human Capital activities, including but not limited to the assigned Region / Offices. This person will assist with initiatives to help build and maintain a strong office community in an inclusive and positive office environment. Activities may include program administration, policy and procedure implementation support, payroll and benefits employee assistance, orientation, employee engagement, and employee relations. Over time, this person will increasingly serve as an HR Business Partner for colleagues and leaders.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our Chicago office. There is no option to be fully remote.
Key Responsibilities :
Program and Policy Administration
- Provide guidance and answer questions on policy interpretation, ensure uniform and equitable application of policies and procedures.
- Administer Talent Management programs, such as leaves, rotations, and work schedule changes; process in-country transfers; generate and distribute appropriate documentation.
- Support processing of immigration requirements in partnership with Global Mobility.
- Administer OW Actuarial Study Program.
- Maintain time off tracking / reporting, and data for service awards.
- Enter Employee transactions and draft related documents for new hires, transfers, manager changes, pay changes, status / role changes and terminations. Ensure and request required approvals are obtained.
- Provide assistance to resolve payroll and benefit issues and answer general questions.
- Stay up-to-date on program / policy changes within OW Consulting particularly in Canada to ensure consideration is given to whether these should apply within OW Actuarial.
Pre-Hire, Orientation, Terminations
Ensure new hires have first day logistics and details, including required paperwork, such as I9s in the US and authorized work documentation.Organize and conduct Day 1 orientation (schedule presenters, order lunch, reserve meeting rooms).Coordinate with departments to address specific onboarding requirements.Deliver presentations that meet high quality standards.Process new hire paperwork.Troubleshoot operational issues (such as travel, expense and IT).Conduct exit interviews for departing employees.Other HC Activities
Provide guidance to employees relating to confidential matters.Distribute employee communications as required.Manage required documentation in accordance with legal and company requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.With guidance from HR Director and / or OW Colleague Relations Team, perform and support employee investigations when required. Ensure enforcement of disciplinary procedures.Assist with development and administration of Performance Improvement Plans.Other duties as assigned, including projects related to the business or the regional HC Operations team.Experience Required :
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of human resources experience required, preferably in a professional services environment.Experience leading projects and / or teams, facilitating discussions, coaching clients, mentoring more junior HR colleagues, and advocating for policy or other initiatives.Bilingualism in French is preferred.HR Certification is a plus.Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power PointExperience with Workday is a plusSkills and Attributes :

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
