JOB SUMMARY
The NP assesses, interprets and evaluates patient status, develops health care plans, and initiates patient communication and education. Develops, implements and evaluates relevant health education and promotion programs directed toward the student population. The Nurse Practitioner independently manages a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, interprets diagnostic tests, and provides comprehensive follow-up care. The NP serves as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and ancillary staff, ensuring continuity of care and alignment with current best practices. In this setting, the NP plays a key role in patient triage, emergency stabilization when needed, and coordination of off-campus referrals when needed.

Education
Master's degree
Experience
Minimum of one year of clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required. Experience working in college health, urgent care, ED or primary care settings preferred. Must be confident in clinical decision-making and capable of managing a population of diverse student presentations.
Licenses or Certifications
Licensed by the State of Virginia as 1) Registered Nurse, 2) Nurse Practitioner with Rx Authority, 4) DEA Certification 5) Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Family or Adult focus) 6) CPR certified.
Financial Responsibility
No direct accountability for financial transactions.
Special Knowledge
Effective in working with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical equipment / tools (including blood pressure monitor, stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, syringes and needles, nebulizer, blood drawing equipment, pulse oximeter, glucose monitor, peak flow device, EKG machine), medical test products (such as Quick-Vue Strep and HCG tests, urinalysis), medical terminology, and clinical best practices.
Communication skills
(oral and written) and knowledge of adolescent / young adult development. Competent with electronic health records
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with patient care, including but not limited to : performing minor procedures, treating patients both on an exam table, and on the ground, and responding effectively to medical emergencies. This role requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for extended periods, and quickly transition between tasks in a clinical setting. Must also be able to respond rapidly to clinical emergencies, assist in patient transfers, and position patients for exams or procedures. Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and fine motor skills are necessary to perform technical procedures and operate clinical equipment safely.
