The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).
Position Summary
The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH). The Program Manager manages the federally-funded Western Region Universities Consortium (WRUC) to mitigate exposure to occupational and environmental hazards. Work in conjunction with Consortium members, the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Training Program (WTP), and various partner organizations and agencies to monitor WRUC-wide programs, meet established benchmarks and ensure compliance with funder requirements. Assess needs associated with emerging hazards, identify new outreach and education opportunities and / or innovations in training approaches, evaluate the impact, and share results. Work with a team of LOSH staff and consultant-instructors to develop and implement outreach and education programs to address worker and community exposures, facilitate training and Train-the-Trainer programs for both Consortium partners and community audiences, and evaluate the impacts. Maintain internal and external WRUC communications. Comply with reporting and deliverable requirements as established by funders and the university. Lead WRUC evaluation activities. Represent LOSH and WRUC in local, state and national meetings. Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the work of LOSH project coordinators and support staff. Lead an internal LOSH NIEHS grant team. Identify new funding opportunities and contribute to grant proposals. Participate in LOSH-wide organizational and staff development initiatives.
