Job Overview :
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and internal company policies. This role involves identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, promoting a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement in EHS performance across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Safety Management
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS programs, policies, and procedures (e.g., Lockout / Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response Planning).
Conduct regular workplace safety inspections, hazard analyses, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and tracking of corrective actions for all workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses.
Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities.
Oversee the implementation of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and manage the PPE supply program.
Environmental Compliance
Monitor and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations such as air quality and emissions and waste management.
Manage the facility's environmental permits and regulatory reporting requirements.
Conduct environmental risk assessments and implement control measures.
Training and Culture
Develop and deliver mandatory EHS training programs for all new and existing employees, contractors, and visitors.
Promote and foster a proactive safety culture where EHS is prioritized and integrated into daily operations.
Provide coaching and support to supervisors and employees on EHS best practices and regulatory compliance.
Engineering and Auditing
Develop and implement applicable solutions in collaboration with the production, engineering, and other relevant teams.
Provide guidance and action on equipment installations, and process changes to ensure compliance with EHS standards (Management of Change - MOC).
Specify engineering controls for machine guarding, ventilation, noise reduction, and other physical hazards.
Perform internal EHS audits to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Liaise with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA) during inspections and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Environmental, Chemical, Safety, Industrial) or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience working in an EHS role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of production principles and manufacturing environments.
Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
Proven ability to conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram), and corrective action planning.
Must be willing to work onsite plus periodic weekends and rotating shifts to support troubleshooting and implementing solutions in collaboration with production and maintenance.
All other knowledge, skills, and abilities that are reasonably aligned with this role, such as strong project management and organizational skills, time management skills, problem solving skills, ability to use necessary computer software, etc.
Preferred Certifications (A strong plus)
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification
Work Environment and Physical Demands :
Periods of working on feet and using tools while evaluating manufacturing equipment.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required for safety.
