Accounting Associate, Property Management

As a Property Accountant on our client finance team, you will provide full -scale accounting support for the property management team, and function as a key member of the management team.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Assume responsibility for month-end and year-end close activities from balance sheet and cash account reconciliations to financial statement preparation
• Participate in the creation of the annual budgets and monthly forecasts
• Prepare monthly reporting packages for management and client that detail financial performance relative to plan
• Assist Property Managers and client to process monthly property financials
• Produce and analyze variance reports and performance metrics for business operations management teams.
• Ensure that all bank statements are reconciled on a timely basis and follow-up on all outstanding checks and reconciling items
• Perform or review reconciliation and true-up of funding vs. actual expenditures.
• Prepare monthly accruals for client accounting services
• Analyze and review financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital
• Prepare operating escalations, year-end true-ups, and real estate taxes as per lease requirements
• Ensure compliance with both Jones Lang LaSalle Internal Audit and Client Accounting Services SAS 70 internal review standards
• Perform complex financial analyses with minimal supervision, Cost Benefit Analysis, and sophisticated analytical tools
• Communicates financial and operational performance results, and participates in the development of formal recommendations and presentations to client's leadership team and business partners
• Function as a resource to property teams to coordinate procedures, respond to accounting questions, and respond to client questions
• Participate in and/or manage special projects as needed
• Proficiency in computer-based accounting applications; experience with Yardi a plus
• Ability to interpret lease documents for lease abstract preparation
• Act as liaison between Property Management & Accounting
• Develop relationships with client to partner in financial reporting
• Partner with client and property team on process improvement; look for opportunities to drive efficiencies

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• 2-3 years accounting experience; real estate a plus
• Strong analytical skills, organizational skills
• Demonstrated consistency in values, principles and work ethic
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer proficiency
• Strong attention to detail and proficient time management and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
