Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU role in Illinois requiring at least 2 years of recent CVICU experience and active IL RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in an Adult Cardiac Intermediate (CVICU / Stepdown) Unit within a Level 1 Trauma acute care setting20-bed unit with all private, monitored roomsPatients include post-ICU stepdown, TAVR, ablations, Watchman, Micra, MitraClip, heart failure, ventilated and trached patients, and overflow from other stepdowns including COVID casesNurse-to-patient ratios range from 1 : 3, up to 1 : 4 depending on acuityRNs responsible for titrating a variety of drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmololUtilizes Swan Ganz, external pacemakers, PICCs, midlines, CVCs, swans, and arterial linesAll patients monitored on the Philips system; RNs expected to interpret stripsUses EPIC EMR system12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with rotating weekends and holidaysFloating required to all levels of care including ICU, with travelers expected to take a full assignmentCharge nurses and house supervisors are on shift 24 / 7 and may take assignmentsPatient care techs support the unit with ratios of 1 : 12-15 depending on staffingVentilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow equipment are in use, with vented patients being trachedRNs are expected to provide advanced cardiovascular critical care and float to the ICU as neededStrong assessment, critical thinking, teamwork, and organizational skills requiredUnit-specific orientation includes one day on the unit and two days with a preceptorCompassion, motivation, time management, and a positive attitude are valuedScrubs must be clean, professional, and appropriately fitting; no color requirement and scrubs are not providedHoliday coverage is every other holidayFirst time travelers are not specified; candidates must be able to adapt quickly without extensive onboardingLocal candidates within 50 miles are eligible at a local pay rate; no set radius ruleRequirements
Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 2 years of recent experience in a CVICU or Cardiac ICU settingCurrent BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred; CCRN or PCCN a plusDemonstrated ability to self-manage CVICU / stepdown / ICU patient populations and unit equipment with minimal supervisionExperience with titrating multiple critical care drips and interpreting cardiac telemetry stripsAbility to float to ICU and provide full care assignmentsMust be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environmentBenefits
