Under limited supervision the ER Unit Secretary will interact with all ED staff, and will play a key role in providing a center of communication for the ED team. This individual will also assist in the daily operations of the ED as assigned by the Director. This position adheres to the principles, philosophy, Standards of Performance and the mission of Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in all aspects of job performance.
Typical duties and Responsibilities :
- Primary duties to include; answering phones, coordinating transfers, and paging / contacting physicians as needed by the ED physician / staff.
- Match EMS run Sheets to telemetry forms and place them in the pre-hospital coordinators box.
- Functions collaboratively and competently as an integral part of the patient care team.
- Assists nursing staff with transfer arrangements; obtain patients signatures on required documents, make certain paperwork is thorough and complete including the EMTALA transfer form, chart copies, radiology reports and any associated patient information.
- Answers patient call lights, provides comfort care, and informs the primary RN of patient needs.
- Completes daily stocking of patient rooms, medication room (non-pharmacy items), and departmental supply room (as time allows).
- Completes daily ordering of supplies from purchasing and central supply as time allows. Monitors inventory use and provides feedback to Director.
- Monitors timely results of lab and radiology services intended to expedite the care of the patient.
- Once labs and radiology studies are complete, notifies the provider of results and assists in facilitating disposition. If results are delayed, will follow up to make sure the diagnostic was completed they were drawn and sent. If this has been done follow up with lab or radiology to make sure they are in process.
Requirements :
Education : High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience : Prefer one-year experience in emergency care within the last 18 months.
Licenses : CNA or MA preferred.
Certificates : Current BLS certification.
Computer Skills : Ability to type in data in patient record as requested.
Working Conditions : Exposure to unpleasant sights, smells and infectious diseases possible.
