The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives creating safer communities and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the Computer Network Specialist I so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!

The main purpose of this job is to provide Tier 1 Customer Support to over 2000 DJS staffand vendors who utilize the DJS network applications and software. This position assiststroubleshoots and resolves user software hardware and network issues and if not able toresolve escalates to Tier 2 through four as necessary. This position also provides accountmanagement and tracking to ensure appropriate staff have access to the network softwareand hardware to do their jobs. This position also provides some inventory management andvendor manage to support their job functions.

Some key responsibilities of this position may include but not be limited to the following :

• Provides Tier 1 level phone and email support statewide to assist troubleshoot and resolve user software and hardware network and technical issues; and escalates work orders to the correct tier group 2 through 4 as necessary.
• Provides Account Management ensuring users have access to all the requested software and applications required to do their jobs.
• Provides appropriate training to staff as well as necessary user instruction and support.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid telework schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience : Two years of experience six months of experience planning integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks and an additional eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages orother developmental tools; planning installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.

Notes :

1. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA) Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for a high school education : operating computer systems scheduling controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage processing data on computer systems evaluating implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.

4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degree in computer information technology management information systems or other information technology related fieldincluding course work in local or wide area computer network from an accredited college or university and six months of experience planning integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in NetworkAnalyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for thisposition may possess any of the following qualifications :

Intermediateknowledge of MS Office Suite

Familiarwith updating helpdesk ticketing systems. (e.g. ServiceDesk Plus SpiceWorks)

Experiencewith VPNs

Basic knowledge of networkingconcepts such as TCP / IP.

Experience with remote support tools(e.g. SCCM Team Viewer)
