American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Ortho General Surgical position on night shifts, requiring WA or compact RN licensure and ortho experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 40-bed Ortho General Surgical unit within a Level III trauma hospitalPatient population includes general medical and surgical cases such as pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, PE, dialysis, COVID, and orthopedic post-surgical patientsNo neuro or cardiothoracic cases assignedPatient ratios typically 1 : 4-5, assignment based on acuity and may include both COVID and non-COVID patientsNight shift schedule with variable weekend requirements based on unit needsPossible floating to other med / surg units and ED holdingUnit equipped with Epic EMR, Alaris, and Pyxis systemsCentralized telemetry monitoring available 24 / 7First-time travelers may be considered if determined a good fit for the unitUnit support includes CNAs, free-floating charge nurse, flex nurse, 24 / 7 hospitalist, and RT coverageResponsibilities include managing complex surgical and ortho post-op patients, administering IV antibiotics, dressing changes, managing drains and ostomies, and complex wound careRequired to complete a telemetry competency prior to the start of the assignmentTwo days of hospital orientation and one day of unit orientation providedCompliance with medication safety protocols and pain documentationAny color scrubs permittedNo personal phones on the unit; breaks are required\n \n Requirements\n
Active WA or compact RN license required (must be in hand or show proof of pending application)Minimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg RN experienceOrtho nursing experience is requiredCurrent BLS certificationMust pass a rhythm interpretation exam prior to startEpic charting experience preferred; manager approval needed if not previously usedStrong surgical nursing and time management skillsAbility to interpret cardiac rhythm strips (training provided if needed)\n Benefits\n
