Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a 5S Trauma Stepdown (PCU / IMC) position, requiring strong trauma or stepdown experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based 5S Trauma Stepdown (IMC / PCU) unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Unit includes 25 floor beds and 6 stepdown beds, serving multi-system-injured trauma and surgical patients
  • Patient ratios are 1 : 5 for floor RN and 1 : 3 for stepdown RN
  • No pediatric patient assignment required
  • Night shifts available as 3x12 or 4x12 (7pm-7am), including weekdays and every other weekend
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Charting is done using Cerner EMR
  • Orientation is held every other Thursday
  • Accepts blocked shift scheduling requests
  • Responsible for nursing care of trauma and post-surgical patients in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • First-time travelers accepted if experienced in ICU or trauma
  • Royal blue or white scrubs required
  • Free parking available for travelers
  • Flu shot required during flu season unless medically exempted
  • COVID vaccine is not required
  • Modules covering facility policies and unit protocols must be completed prior to start
  • Major holiday RTO is limited to one out of the three major holidays

    • Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license, or proof of pending license at time of application
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU setting
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; CPI and TNCC preferred
  • Ability to start IVs, manage vents, telemetry monitoring, provide conscious sedation, and trauma care
  • Successful fit test required
  • Minimum two manager or charge references from the past two years
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from facility (75-99 miles considered for approval)
  • Cannot have been a permanent employee within the health system in the past 2 years
