Location: Bethesda, MD Reports to: Primary School DirectorJob Type: Full-time; Exempt; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicableSalary Information: The salary range is $51,908-$110,424 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be compensated according to the highest category to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the years of applicable experience provided. For example, a teacher with a Bachelor's degree and a teaching credential with 5 years of experience will have a base salary of $57,969.77 per year. A teacher with a Master’s degree and teaching certification with 5 years of experience will have a base salary of $61,566.29 per year. A teacher with a PhD and 5 years of teaching experience will have a base salary of $65,461.50 per year. Benefits: In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for: paid time off, paid holidays, and health and retirement benefits enrollment, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 403(b) plan.

POSITION SUMMARYThe Elementary English Teacher is responsible for all aspects of teaching and learning for assigned classes, promoting high-quality standards, effective teaching, and encouraging all students to fulfill their potential within the framework of the school's guidelines. This role also includes educational projects, departmental responsibilities, and collaboration with other faculty and staff.

Provide English Language instruction (ELA & ELL) at the Elementary School in accordance with the school's mission and fundamental goals
Develop instructional materials, assessment tools, and lesson plans according to the needs of students of differing ages, levels, and abilities, ranging from beginning English-language learning to advanced proficiency
Select and order instructional materials for use in the classroom in collaboration with the English department
Use and integrate technology as an effective learning tool in the classroom and with students
Monitor and assess student performance throughout the year to determine English level placement, maintain individual records, and prepare report cards each trimester
Manage student behavior positively to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
Participate in English department meetings, pedagogical planning sessions (including those with French teachers, such as classes de découverte or conseils de cycle), and collaborate on departmental projects
Attend teachers' meetings (conseils des maîtres) and participate in appropriate professional development programs
Participate in parent-teacher conferences as required or requested
Act as a liaison between students, parents, and school staff regarding the Elementary School English program, interpreting the program to parents
Perform supervisory duties other than lunch/lunch recess, according to the duty roster (tableau de services), not to exceed the average agreed upon for all elementary school teachers
Stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction and effective schools
Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, parents, community agencies, and colleagues
Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned by the Primary School Director and/or his delegates
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in one of the following fields: English, Elementary School Teaching, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Bilingual Education, French, or Foreign Language Education
English as a native language
Well-developed and effective communication skills (oral and written) and strong human relations skills; ability to work well with other teachers, support staff, parents, and members of the community
Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student achievement
Good organization and time management skills
Ability to use innovative, active teaching methods, and solve everyday problems using intuition, flexibility, and creativity
Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information
Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance at work
Computer and technological literacy

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching English to Second Language Learners or Bilingual Education
Elementary teaching experience and/or Teacher Certification
Familiarity with Google Classroom
An understanding of French is preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position primarily operates in a school/office environment. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, walking, or standing, extensive use of computers and other office equipment, and occasional lifting or moving of equipment up to 25 pounds.
