Position Summary :
The Machining Department Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations in the machining department, ensuring production schedules are met, and quality standards are upheld. This role manages both the machinists and the programmers who develop CNC programs for running the machines. The Supervisor will focus on optimizing machine performance, personnel management, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This position involves close collaboration with production planners, maintenance, and quality and material teams to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and ensure operational excellence.

Essential Functions :
- Oversee daily operations, product schedules, and product quality of the machining department.
- Supervise machinists, machine operators, and CNC programmers, ensuring efficient and safe work practices.
- Coordinate with production planning and quality teams to meet deadlines and resolve production issues.
- Lead the programming team in developing and optimizing CNC programs for machining operations.
- Monitor machine performance and initiate troubleshooting as needed.
- Implement improvement priorities, including process optimization, efficiency programs, and waste reduction.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and internal protocols, conducting regular safety checks.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Provide training and development for machinists and programmers to improve skills and performance.
- Review daily production reports, identifying potential areas for process improvement and cost savings.
- Engage management regarding production performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the department.
- Consistently demonstrate commitment and support for the Sterling vision, mission, policies and procedures.
- Perform work in compliance with work instructions and policies as outlined by management.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals.

Skills :
Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast-paced production environment.Strong knowledge of machining processes, equipment operation, and CNC programming.Ability to troubleshoot machining and equipment issues, as well as programming inefficiencies.Strong ability to work cross-functionally with production planning, quality, and maintenance teams.Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices in manufacturing.Experience with Lean manufacturing methodologies to optimize production processes.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and feedback.Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or a related field preferred.At least 5 years of experience in machining and CNC programming, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.Strong working knowledge of CNC machining, programming, and program optimization.Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Navision preferred).Work Environment :
This position is primarily on the production floor (approximately 75%) with some time spent in the office (approximately 25%) for administrative tasks, such as reviewing reports and scheduling. The Machining Department Supervisor will be actively involved in monitoring and improving shop floor activities.
Full-time annual salary $83,000 - $95,000 dependent upon experience, and qualifications.
Physical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate with others via email, phone and in person. The employee must frequently use hands and fingers to use computers, calculators, write letters, sign documents, and pick up files in the course of work. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position and occasionally move about the inside of an office to access filing cabinets, office machinery and other equipment necessary to accomplish the tasks at hand. The employee is regularly required to position oneself to move and / or access files or other necessary equipment, and is rarely required to crouch, crawl climb or balance.
