Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester.
Position Summary The Student Worker supports the Children's for Children Daycare team by assisting with classroom daily routines, maintaining child to staff ratios, and contributing to a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. This role provides early childhood education experience and professional development in teaching and childcare.
Job Responsibilities 1. Child Supervision - Supervise children to ensure safety and wellbeing.
- Assist in maintaining state-required teacher to child classroom ratios.
- Support classroom teachers in routines including meals, naps, and personal care.
2. Child Development - Implement age-appropriate activities supporting social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
- Provide responsive, developmentally appropriate care and behavior guidance.
3. Communication - Support communication with parents and coworkers including daily reports.
- Use constructive communication strategies and support family traditions.
4. Compliance and Regulations - Maintain food service regulation knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with city/state requirements and accreditation standards.
- Follow mandated reporting expectations for suspected abuse/neglect.
Qualifications - Currently enrolled at Mount St. Joseph University in a degree-granting early education or related program.
- Federal Work Study eligibility required
- Completion of Ohio Childcare Employee Physical (post-offer).
Work Schedule Flexible hours to accommodate class schedules (approx. 10-24 hours/week depending on school policy).
Learning Opportunities - Exposure to early childhood classroom environments.
- Experience supporting infants-preschoolers.
- Skill development in childcare, safety, compliance, and classroom management.
- Opportunities to shadow lead teachers.
- CPR/First Aid training provided.
