Description

Benchmark Human Services is seeking people who are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) to work as a DSP in our Day Program. Expect challenges, but even greater self-fulfillment when you’ve made a positive change in another person's life. Experience isn’t required; you will receive paid training.

    • Responsibilities Include :

  • Protect and honor the rights of people with disabilities.
  • Increase awareness of self-advocacy and support individual choice and decision-making.
  • Utilize ASL to communicate with Deaf or hard of hearing individuals.
  • Develop a positive rapport while serving as a role model to create a safe and caring environment.
  • Assist person served with personal care needs.
  • Teach independent living skills.
  • Plan and facilitate meaningful client activities that build recreation, socialization and leisure skills, including community outings and center-based programs.
  • Connect individuals served with resources and opportunities to explore their communities, careers, volunteerism, education, etc.
  • Work in a cohesive team environment to enhance the growth of individuals served.
  • Accurately complete and maintain required documentation such as shift notes, individual goal progression, and incident reports.
  • Participate in on-going professional training.
  • May be required to provide in-home support during day program closures or holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • General Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid auto insurance and driver’s license.
  • Must be willing and able to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Ability to maintain good work attendance.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Decision making and communication skills.
  • Some computer skills preferred.
