Works in conjunction with and in support of purchasing staff (Buyer I, Buyer II, Buyer III, and Purchasing Manager) in the tactical and strategic procurement of assigned commodities. Gathers and analyzes inventory levels and production system demands, generating quotations, and preparing purchase orders for procurement of materials. Drive continuous improvement in product, process, and procedure by finding new and creative supply solutions. Strategically source commodities and recommend alternative products of same or better quality at a more favorable cost, in collaboration with suppliers and department management. Position is focused on strategic sourcing, market development, and supplier management.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Source, Negotiate, Analyze, and Implement
- Support cross functional activities and interaction between Engineering, Operations, Technology and/or Marketing to assess current and future sourcing requirements.
- Obtain bids, place standing orders, verify cost information, process purchasing documents to ensure goods are properly received.
- Lead negotiations for commercial agreements and contracts catered to supply situations
- Manage the overall BMSC/Supplier relationship.
- Expedite delivery of purchases, resolve freight/shipment issues, address quality concerns and pricing discrepancies.
- Support the plant buyers on relationship issues with strategic suppliers.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
- Project Management and New Product Development
- Negotiate Capital Expenditure projects, equipment, and services to meet project goals.
- Support project focused activities to launch new products:
- Define project in regard to timing, performance, and cost.
- Develop sourcing strategy for commodity and drive supplier performance to meet project goals.
- Keep up to date on new technology available in the market and understand the impact to BMSC.
- Assist Purchasing Manager with Quarterly Business Reviews with BMSC leadership and suppliers to review performance, new technologies, continuous improvement opportunities, overall strategic business objectives, etc.
- Actively seeks opportunities to improve quality, service, and cost of all materials and/or services.
- Additional Requirements
- Provide backup support to department personnel when necessary.
- Provide mentorship to less experienced Associates within the Purchasing area.
