Semi-Skilled Laborer - (IAH) Landscaping
Applications will be accepted from all persons interested. The position is within the Houston Airport System - Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance section. Workdays and hours are Sunday to Thursday, 6 : 00 am to 2 : 30 pm (subject to change).
The purpose of the Semi-Skilled Laborer in the Horticulture & Grounds Maintenance section of the Houston Airport System is to safely and efficiently operate minor equipment to perform a series of manual activities and tasks supporting the goal of "Opening Day Fresh" by prolonging the life and aesthetic beauty of airport's owned assets through effective, efficient, and proactive maintenance. Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date.
The Semi-Skilled Laborer duties will include but are not limited to :
Working conditions include extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and / or assuming awkward positions. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
Minimum requirements include educational requirements of ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and / or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. Experience requirements are six months of related experience. License requirements include a valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Preferences include availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays; experience with using minor mowing and power equipment; and 2 years' experience with weed eating & zero turn mower operation. Eligible veteran applicants will be given preference.
The selection process will involve application review and / or interview. Department may administer skills assessment test. This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Pay grade 6. Salary factors include candidate's qualifications and pay rates of other employees in this classification.
