About the job

Advantra is partnering with a global financial services firm in New York to hire a Data Engineer / BI Developer to build and maintain scalable data pipelines and develop business intelligence visualizations for internal analytics platforms.

About the role

You will design develop and optimize data transformation workflows using PySpark and SQL while also building clear effective dashboards and interfaces in tools like Power BI or Retool. The role combines strong data engineering skills with front-end visualization experience to help business users access insights easily.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain ETL pipelines and data transformation workflows using PySpark.

Write efficient SQL queries for large-scale data processing and analytics.

Design and implement BI dashboards using Power BI or Retool.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define visualization and reporting requirements.

Integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple cloud sources.

Support and enhance data pipelines within a managed cloud data platform.

Develop reusable data models and maintain data quality standards.

Optimize performance and scalability of BI and data systems.

Support production deployments and resolve pipeline or dashboard issues.

Core requirements

5 years of experience in data engineering or BI development.

Strong proficiency in PySpark and advanced SQL coding.

Experience with Power BI or Retool for dashboard development.

Familiarity with front-end web design and data visualization principles.

Strong understanding of ETL / ELT pipelines and cloud data platforms.

Experience with Python for data manipulation and automation.

Familiarity with Java for integration or backend logic.

Ability to translate business needs into technical data solutions.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science Data Engineering or related field.

Nice to have

Experience with GCP AWS or Azure data services.

Familiarity with CI / CD for data pipeline deployment.

Knowledge of API integration for BI tools.

Experience with performance tuning in PySpark or SQL.

Exposure to modern data observability and governance tools.
